Xie Fei

Xie Fei, Professor and former Vice Rector of the Beijing Film Academy, Gold and Silver Bear Award-winning filmmaker and advisor to the Image China Film Week

Xie Fei is one of the most influential figures in the "fourth generation" of Chinese filmmakers, having been awarded many prestigious prizes, including the Golden and Silver Bear awards. His work has made a significant contribution to the development of Chinese cinema.
He has made a lasting impact not only through his work, but also through his decades of teaching. He is a professor at the Beijing Film Academy, Asia's largest film school, where he also served as vice-rector of education from 1980 to 1988. His distinguished students include world-renowned directors such as Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige and Jia Zhangke.

Although he has retired from film directing in the new millennium, he remains active in the film world as a producer and artistic advisor. He regularly publishes, gives masterclasses and lectures at various universities and professional events, and is a regular jury member and guest of honour at Chinese and international film festivals.

At the 2025 Image China Film Week Black Snow (1990), which won the Silver Bear Award at the 1990 Berlin International Film Festival and is made all the more memorable by Jiang Wen's memorable performance. After the screening, the director will share behind-the-scenes details of the filming with the audience in a panel discussion.
