Barnabás Tóth's film has already reached Chinese audiences at the Silk Road International Film Festival 2023. In 1956, after the defeated revolution, Márta and István try to leave the country on the last refugee train. Alongside the young couple, the relics of the Church are on their way to the border, the path of which is being tortured out of the hands of a Catholic priest by the men in power. The characters' stories intersect on the train in an all-consuming game of chess in which not only the fate of the treasures but also the lives of the lovers are at stake.
Barnabás Tóth's long-awaited adaptation is a psychological thriller with unexpected twists and turns, the likes of which the audience has never seen from a Hungarian director before.
Our guest at the screening will be Barnabás Tóth, the director of the film.
