Chris Berry, Professor at King's College London, internationally renowned Chinese film expert and researcher

For decades, Chris Berry has been a world-renowned expert and scholar on East Asian cinema, particularly Chinese cinema. He began his academic career at the University of Leeds, where he majored in Chinese Studies, and went on to earn his Master's and Doctorate degrees from the prestigious University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA).

In the 1980s, he spent three years in Beijing as a consultant for the China Film Corporation (1985-1987) and the Chinese Foreign Language Publishing House (1987-1988), which gave him a unique insight into the Chinese film industry and art, which was otherwise inaccessible to the outside world.

He has applied his unique experience and knowledge as a researcher and lecturer, teaching at international institutions such as La Trobe and Griffith Universities in Australia, and then the University of California - Berkeley and the University of London, before King's College London. He has also been a visiting professor at leading Asian higher education institutions such as the Beijing Film Academy, Fudan University and the National University of Korea. His work focuses on the social, historical and political contexts of Chinese and East Asian cinema. Through his numerous volumes of studies and publications, he has become a leading figure in contemporary film studies, bridging the gap between Eastern and Western film studies.
