CONTENTS:

A content review based on a film recommendation for the Imagery Chinese Film Week by our guest of honour, Wang Yao, a lecturer at the Beijing Film Academy:

Li Huiquan is released from prison at the age of 24 after a street brawl that ended badly. He starts a new life on his own as a street vendor. He meets a budding singer, Zhao Yaqiu, and is smitten at first sight. He comes to her rescue when she is harassed. They seem to be getting closer, but when Li Huiquan's life seems to finally be settling down, his former best friend - who was also in prison for fighting - escapes and turns to him for help ...

Black Snow won the Silver Bear Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement at the 1990 Berlinale. The film gives an insight into the search for a new path, the state of mind and the social reality of the time of Chinese youth in the 1980s in China, a period of transformation that was mediating the politics of reform and opening-up.

Xie Fei, the director of the film, will be the guest of the screening.
