We follow the bizarre UFO expedition undertaken by the editorial team of *Space Exploration* magazine – a publication that has seen better days – through the increasingly remote regions of south-west China. When news of mysterious phenomena reaches them from a mountain village, the obsessed UFO researcher and his burnt-out colleague set off immediately. Along the way, their team is joined by a growing number of eccentric characters, and the UFO hunt eventually goes far beyond the search for extraterrestrial civilisations.
Among other things, the film drew inspiration from the ancient classic novel *Journey to the West*, but what perhaps makes it truly special is its mockumentary style – rarely seen in Chinese cinemas – and its distinctive, absurd humour.
